STAMP TERRITORIES

Up to the present day the publication from B.Hlinka and L.Mucha with name The Philatelic Atlas continue as basic handbook for czech stamp territories collectors. This publication was issued in three Czech editions with total 80 000 copies and in two English editions (The Orbis Philatelic Atlas by Orbis Publishing House, U.K. and The Stamp Atlas by Scott Publishing House, U.S.A.). However, since last Czech edition in 1986 year with 780 stamp territories were many changes on the geographilately world map. That's why after precisely of the stamp territory criterias GEOPHILA Association publish continent by continent new Stamp Atlas. This new Atlas contain currently stamp territories list with its development periods, local issues etc.

    Basic stamp territories according to the GEOPHILA

    are defined by the postage stamp, issued by official postal administration of an internationally acknowledged state entity, and the territory for which that stamp was issued. To this group we put also territories of internationally not acknowledged state formations if their general issues were fulfilling their postal functions demonstrably. Basic stamp territories are articulated on:

    1.   independent state
    2.1 partial territory of an independante state with postal sovereignity
    2.2 partial territory of an independante state without postal sovereignity
    3.   colony
    4.   partial territory of colony
    5.   occupation
    6.   post in abroad
    7.   state territory with an inner postal sovereignity, which was not acknowledged internationally

    Stamp territories with a limited (local) carriage of mail

    are defined by the stamp not issued by an official postal administration for a local carriage of mail, just like stamp issued by official postal administration with a limited use for the public. These stamp territories are articulated on:

    articles looking like stamps with could not be used for paying postage for mail carriage (transport) however.
